<image:caption>If you watched an (older, I guess?) TV show called Fringe, you'd remember that one of the protagonists liked a cereal called Berry Boom. He really wanted Frankenberry, a cereal I had myself as a kid, but which was no longer sold. Anyhow, watching the robin with its berry today reminded me of the cereal. This is mainly because the berries on this tree have gone boom. This was one of the few intact clusters this morning. This evening, it's gone. They all are. The tree is stripped. This is it for berry photos from this tree for the season.

Berries go boom.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A warm evening on the second day of fall and the neighbourhood kids are out spinning around on the playground like there's no tomorrow. They're not wrong, next month it could be cold and white out there given Canadian weather and that will be that for getting some extreme g-forces in until next spring. The kids who come back next year will be diminished as children. A bit older, a bit wiser, missing a small slice of that joy and wonder I saw this evening.

Cameras are made to save these moments because they're gone so fast and you never get them again.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Canon 18-55mm EF-S IS kit lens that shipped with so many of their consumer dSLRs over the years does a lot of heavy lifting for its price range. The lens is atypical in that the image quality (IQ) almost makes them bargain L glass. On the flip side, the sus and less than robust build quality makes them seem like someone put the wrong branding on a Fisher Price toy. That being said, they're tougher than they look and feel. I own a bunch and not one has failed yet. They're also fun to point into the sun if you like hexagonal light artifacts.

<image:caption>I was on the homestretch of a late afternoon walk, just passing the playground on my block as I approached my house. The playground was covered with children in the same way an unattended potato salad gets covered by ants at a picnic. The sky was pregnant with rain and the smell of it was in the air. One flash followed by a loud boom an instant later, the children scattered like ants and bustling playground was suddenly empty. The rain started less than a minute later just after I had made this image and was unlocking my front door.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Meet Sir-Poops-A-Lot. He pooped on my chairs. He pooped on the lid of my firepit. He pooped all over my camp stove(s). He pooped on the picnic table. His personality can even be described as poopy. Oh, and he also stole a marshmallow out of my bag while I wasn't looking. The Common Grackle really is organized crime with feathers.

I spent an hour wandering around with a large and heavy lens looking for bird shots. I got bupkis. Then I come back to my campsite and find this feathery bastard giving me side-eye. Back at you, pal.</image:caption>

He passed last fall after spending the previous five years in decline. Maybe more, it's getting harder to remember the specifcs now. I do know that the left tank is regular diesel and the right tank is purple diesel. Both are empty now. What fuel was left was stolen by thieves sneaking into the mostly empty (these days) yard to pilfer fuel. Now the overgrowth serves as a warning to not bother trying.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Trails in Banff, Alberta, are clearly marked and park visitors are expected to stay on them. First and foremost this is to protect the environment from the crushing number of visitors the park gets now. Second, is safety. That's one big tripping hazard you're looking at, not to mention that idiots can get killed off trail (well, quicker than they get killed on trail). Finally, your socks won't get wet. So sloppy during the spring melt.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Cockshutt Continental 1850 was a swanky tractor back in its day. It even had air conditioning, which was a must given it's a rolling greenhouse that can pull a haybine. While the concept of growing tomatoes while you seed a crop is great in principle, in reality you just wind up roasting a farmer alive.

I don't think the aircon works these days - a pigeon's head keeps poking out of the innards.</image:caption>

<image:title>The key to getting started, Sunnyridge Farm, Kirriemuir, AB, 2026-04-03</image:title>
<image:caption>It's the usual story. I was looking over the Cockshutt 40 tractor trying to find a detail that stood and and there it was. Wasn't that enthralled with it, but a title popped into my head that I liked and now I was comitted to getting the image and making it work. Shot with a Pentacon Red 50mm f1.8 manual lens on my Canon EOS R5 with focus peaking turned on.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I put this under the home album, but it's our "other" home. Meaning we're staying at the mother-in-law's farm for Easter. Most things are the same, but there's one big whoopsie. The wind took the back out of the quonset and the front isn't in great shape, either. I expect it will be on the ground next.

Getting old ain't pretty.</image:caption>

It looked better on our wedding day. Honest.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I think the side badge says "Master", but I'm not sure. I also can't tell you if it was a car or a truck. I spot a detail on a vehicle and it fills my vision and it's all I can see until I make the image. Then I see the next detail and off I go again. I rarely see an entire vehicle these days.</image:caption>
