The Canon 18-55mm EF-S IS kit lens that shipped with so many of their consumer dSLRs over the years does a lot of heavy lifting for its price range. The lens is atypical in that the image quality (IQ) almost makes them bargain L glass. On the flip side, the sus and less than robust build quality makes them seem like someone put the wrong branding on a Fisher Price toy. That being said, they're tougher than they look and feel. I own a bunch and not one has failed yet. They're also fun to point into the sun if you like hexagonal light artifacts.
